About Site Owner – Gavin aka Yogi:
Gavin, much like many other avid gamer geeks, has been playing some form of video game since he was a tiny barbarian. He grew up on the NES system and eventually he began making the console rounds into the realms of Playstation, Xbox and further Nintendo products. Mid High School, Gavin began the jump into PC gaming on Age of Empires, Half-Life and Counter Strike. CS led him into a Northwest gaming community known as Johnny5. After working his way up to the level of community administrator, the CS group made their way into the world of Massively Multiplayer Online games. Since then Gavin has been hooked. While still gaming here and there on mobile devices and consoles, most of his time is dedicated to the love of the MMO. After numerous attempts at starting blogs for other hobbies, Gavin decided it was time to write about his one true love: Games. Thus FlexYourGeek.com was born.
Interesting Facts about Gavin:
- Has an extremely over active imagination. He is that guy that hangs more with the kids than adults at family outings.
- Once sobbed for an hour after finding his NES controllers melted on the wood stove. Now protects his controllers from all outside influences.
- Ate a pound of licorice in an hour for a LAN party bet. Throwing up never tasted so good.
- Plays guitar, loves Biology, climbs rocks and reads often.
- Ignored everything life had to offer during his first year in WoW. He gained 25lbs, dropped out of school, and forgot what people were. On the bright side, he beat all of his friends to 60. Twice. He now practices healthier gaming habits… unless there is licorice around.
About Podcast Contributor and Co-Host – Bill aka Johnny Confidence
Bill was born with a d20 in his hand, much to the surprise and concern of the Doctors. Since then no one has been able to slow him down. Starting out early in life with an Atari 2600 and really growing on the NES he’s been a fan of console, PC, and analog games since he can remember. After the NES the PC gaming bug bit and that consumed most his time up through adult hood. His earliest memories involve Duke Matching his current wife while they were dating in highschool and usually losing (but he could win at warcraft2!…still didn’t work out well). In his mid 20′s Johnny Confidence was born and the Counter Strike bug hit. There were no servers close enough to our rural town that really supported what we wanted to play so he and some friends started hosting a local server at work. 5 years and too many lan parties to count The Johnny 5 is still a strong gaming community of friends and families. Now with young son at home Bill doesn’t get as much gaming time in as he used too but he’s become an opinionated ol’geezer so he shares his thoughts on the glory days here at FYG.
Interesting Facts about Bill
- Was homeschooled and got into community college with a forged diploma
- Once played a game of risk for 3 months over the summer with friends
- Got all his friends messed up on MT Dew and made them do this http://bit.ly/d92zOj(Yes that is your host Yogi in there as well)
- After starting one clan has always gravitated towards that. Probably has run 8 to 10 guilds/clans all with websites. If you build it they will come.
- Compound fractured his arm when 7y/o trying to skip bars on the monkey bars. Remember kids reach for your dreams unless it’s against posted safety guidelines.
About Writer – Skaggy
Living a geek free existence until his early childhood Skaggy might well have gone into politics or even done something useful, however in 1974 he was introduced to Dr Who and aspirations of anything other than geek hood were quickly forgotten. As he grew up Skaggy’s parents hoped Dr Who and a recent discovery and love of comics were just a phase, but one Christmas they made a fatal mistake of introducing a ZX Spectrum 48K computer to the household. Geek met games and a long term relationship was born. And so the years passed and even marriage and fatherhood have failed to diminish those flames which sprung promethean like all those years ago. In fact the recent addition of MMO’s to his life sees Skaggy keener than ever to continue his message of spreading the geek love.
Interesting Facts about Skaggy
- Skaggy was introduced to playing pen and paper Dungeons and Dragons by the son of his Sunday school teacher.
- Skaggy has a regular slot on the DDO pod cast reading poetry about or inspired by DDO.
- Skaggy once ate Kentucky fried Chicken every night for a week to collect the Star Wars episode one toys and cards. He no longer has the toys but still has high cholesterol.
- Skaggy likes Dr Who that much that he has a tattoo of the seal of rassilon from the program http://www.shillpages.com/dw/other20.jpg. He also named his daughter after one of the Doctor’s companions as well!
About Writer – Tramell
Being brought up with four brothers and a techie father, Games and techonology came naturally to old Tramell here. Growing up playing classic games like the Final Fantasy series, NBA Jams, Techmo Superbowl and Battle Toads & Double Dragons a love affair was born even before he even know what love was or the proper technique of finding the hole. Blood was spilled and tears were shed in the arena on games such as Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Mario Party, and sports games and with a natural knack for multiplayer games he was there for the beginning of console online play. From Dial up Dreamcast all the way the present Xbox live and PSN networks, he takes a healthy dive into online play whenever possible whether it be FPSs or MMOs. Always interested in how technology changes, mindsets are altered and even the small things, he strives to see how the world of videogames can ever improve.
